En las últimas décadas numerosos
investigadores han puesto en duda la validez de la noción de
Mediterráneo entendida como una unidad de análisis inteligible, alegando
que responde más a una construcción discursiva moderna y defendiendo
que la percepción unitaria de realidad y estudio que se esgrime no es
más que una ilusión. A pesar de ello, y suscribiendo muchos de estos
postulados, el “Mediterráneo” continúa siendo una herramienta de
tremenda utilidad a la hora de abordar ciertas cuestiones que requieren
para su comprensión de un marco de análisis más amplio y de mayores
implicaciones, de unas perspectivas de mayor alcance. El Mediterráneo ha
sido y es un lugar de intercambio de personas, materiales e ideas. Un
lugar en algunas circunstancias de frontera, pero de frontera permeable,
esponjosa y que se retroalimenta de sus diversas orillas.
objetivo de Mediterráneos 2016 es el de recrear ese espacio –imaginado y
construido en muchas ocasiones– de diálogo, contacto y tránsito,
creando un foro transversal e interdisciplinar de debate y reflexión en
torno a las diferentes manifestaciones intelectuales, culturales y
sociales que se produjeron en el Mediterráneo.

study employed is nothing else than a fiction. Despite that, and
endorsing many of these postulates, the “Mediterranean” continues to be a
tremendously useful tool when addressing particular issues that require
a wider analysis framework, greater implications and broader horizons
for their understanding. The Mediterranean has been and still is a place
for exchange and contact. A borderland, in some cases, with limits, but
one with permeable and spongy limits that feeds itself from its
different shores.
aim of “MediterráneoS 2016” is that of recreating the space –imagined
and many times built up– for dialogue, connection and transition,
creating a transversal and interdisciplinary forum for discussion and
reflection about the different intellectual, cultural and social
manifestations that took place in the Mediterranean from Antiquity until
the Early modern period.
